Governor L. Douglas Wilder was right when as a keynote speaker for one of Carl’s birthday celebrations, Wilder said “Carl’s Star is still in its Ascendency.” Eastern Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia has bestowed an Honorary Doctorate on Carl U. Eggleston.
This Honorary Doctorate was awarded to Carl U. Eggleston because of his work in helping the Martha E. Forrester Council of Women lay the foundation for the Robert Russa Moton Museum including getting Senator Mark Warner involved. Carl served as Moton Museum’s President for 10 years. This degree also recognizes Carl for the Carl Eggleston Foundation’s Back to School supplies giveaway for 20 years, the Eggelston Foundation’s 20 years of Christmas Eve toy giveaways and Carl’s many community and civic endeavors.
Carl U. Eggleston was named a Virginia Brown Scholar because he was shut out of school during his youth, and he entered Saint Paul’s College and graduated with a 4.0 GPA at age 57. Mr. Eggleston is a lifelong resident of Farmville.
